Eudora Track Starts at Home
The 2015 Eudora Track team competed on Tuesday, March 31 at the first home meet of the season. With the weather reaching high into the 80’s, the Cardinals were ready to compete. After the start of the meet, Jon Ortiz was able to place first in the shot put and discus, with his younger sister, Olivia Ortiz placing third in girls’ discus. Along with the throwers, Shawn Spurling placed second in javelin with Griffin Katzenmeier following right behind in third place. Sydney Coleman placed second in pole vault, with Vanessa Taylor placing third. Braeden Manley placed first in pole vault and Broderick Topil placing third.
When the weather started to cool and the stands began to fill with parents and friends, the running events began. Individually, Sydney Coleman was able to place second in the open 400 meters. Corrinne Yoder-Mulkey was also able to place in the open 400 meters as third. Along with Austin Ormsby receiving first place in the open 400, and finally with Abbie Shockley getting third in the open 200 meters.
Coach Katzenmeier shares his thoughts on the team’s performance, “I was really pleased with our boy’s distance and mid-distance crew, they are really working hard and showing improvement. We were very happy to have the weather cooperate. Thanks to the many that help run the meet, especially Miss Kimberlin who did a fantastic job with the timing system. The kids did a great job in our first meet of the season. We are really looking forward to the rest.”
