With Mr. Buie out of the nest for the year, Eudora High School has welcomed a new assistant principal, Mrs. Black. Some of you might recognize her; bubbly, brunette bouncing down the hall greeting students as she goes. This is Mrs. Black.

Her and her husband of four years, Chuck, currently live in Olathe with their year and a half old daughter, Bella. Before taking her position here at EHS she was a very successful teacher and coach at schools such as Indian Trails Middle School and Gardner-Edgerton. Before all of her accomplishments at these schools, Black received her administration degree at Emporia State University. While at Emporia, Black was also a standout athlete.

“During college I played softball for Emporia and we got second at nationals… twice.”

As I am sure you can tell, Black is very well rounded and is someone that is very easy to relate to. On top of having a loving husband and a hilarious daughter, Black also had two dogs. Black’s life is very similar to that of other members of the Eudora community, something else that sets Eudora apart from other places in Black’s eyes.

While growing up in a larger school in Olathe, Black is enjoying the small town feel and sense of community that Eudora puts forth and one of its best attributes. The people have also added to Black’s experience so far. In her words the people so far have been “amazing” and have been a huge highlight thus far.

“As far as the future is concerned, I would love to stay in Eudora, but if I’m not fortunate enough for that to happen, I plan to continue my administration career. Where? I am unsure at this time – only time will tell!”

Black’s position here at EHS, at this time, is only temporary despite her growing popularity with the student body. Despite this, she continues a positive attitude and still plans to achieve what she came here to do. She is not only here to fill an empty void in the high school’s administrative staff but hopes to leave something behind.

Part of her work here will be research into how technology is best used in learning and wants to make things more student oriented.

“[One thing I want everyone to know is,] that I am always here to help and my door is always open!” she said.

Even though Mrs. Black is only employed here at EHS for a mere year, we all remain optimistic on a possible extension of Black’s contract. So, next time you see Black in the hallway, don’t be afraid to strike up a conversation about softball or ask how her day has been!
