Last Friday the EHS football team made their way to Bonner Springs to play the first game of the season. Lead by new head coach Jesse Owen, the Cardinals won the season opener with a score of 35-27.

Junior Austin Downing put the first numbers up on the scoreboard, followed by Bonner scoring. Both teams continued to score but Eudora lead 14-7 when they entered the locker room at halftime.

After the half, junior Grant Elston pulled out an 80 yard run putting the Cardinals ahead at 21-7. Subsequently, Bonner Springs scored two more touchdowns. Senior Seth Griffith put an end to Bonner’s scoring streak with a 14 yard run resulting in a touchdown that put EHS in the lead 28-21. Seth also played a major role in the defensive aspect of the game leading the team with 12 tackles. Elston and senior Justus Merz blocked an extra point attempt helping the Cardinals hold on to their 28-27 lead. With only 1:22 left on the clock Grant Elston scored another touchdown that lead EHS to the final score of 35-27.
