Girls Basketball
By Brooke Abel
The final games of the girls basketball season took place recently. The ladies finished the season with a record of 8-12. The beginning of the season was a little rocky, but by the end, they stepped up and gave it their all.
The final home game, or as others know it, Senior Night, was on Thursday, February 19. The team’s seniors included Danelle Topil, McKenzie Oller, Emma Beck, and Madison Maring. Ottawa was a tough opponent to face. The ladies came in knowing that they’d have to give it their absolute all and so they did. The Lady Cards lost 39-26.
The first round of sub-state was held at Baldwin against Ottawa on February 26. The girls had a tough game, playing the Cyclones and losing both of their games previously against them. They tried to give them a run for their money, but fell flat losing 41-27.
Allie Webb said this about the overall season, “I feel like this season overall was a good experience for all the girls, we finally got a taste of what winning was like, hopefully we can build on those in the years to come.”
The season flew right by, but the girls worked hard in and out of practice and on the court. We say goodbye to the seniors and junior Allie Webb, who have given years of effort to the basketball program.
